Rapid COVID-19 Testing Q & A

What is COVID-19?

Coronavirus is a family of viruses that cause many illnesses, including the common cold. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a newly discovered coronavirus known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

The virus has infected millions of people all over the world. Though symptoms vary, COVID-19 may lead to life-threatening symptoms in certain groups of people, including the elderly, people with a history of chronic illness, and those with a compromised immune system.

What is rapid COVID-19 testing?

COVID testing determines if you have COVID-19. The BloomMed team performs rapid molecular COVID-19 testing using the most advanced diagnostic tools and technology available.

Molecular tests can detect the presence of the virus’s genetic material using a nasal swab, throat swab, or a sample of your saliva. However, BloomMed, LLC, uses nasal swabs for rapid molecularCOVID-19 testing.

With rapid molecular testing, you can have your results in as little as 15 minutes.

Who needs rapid COVID-19 testing?

BloomMed, LLC, follows the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to determine who needs rapid molecular COVID-19 testing.

According to the CDC, you need COVID testing if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have come in close contact with someone who tested positive for the disease.

Common COVID-19 symptoms that may indicate a need for testing include:

  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle aches
  • Chills
  • Runny nose

If you’re experiencing these symptoms or have concerns about exposure to COVID-19, the professional team at BloomMed, LLC, can talk to you about testing.

What happens during rapid COVID-19 testing?

BloomMed, LLC, performs a nasal swab for rapid molecular COVID-19 testing. They use advanced diagnostic tools that quickly detect the virus from the sample collected from your nasal cavity.

The practice can either perform your test in-office or while you remain in your vehicle. During your COVID test, your provider inserts a shallow swab into both of your nostrils to collect the specimen.

Then, BloomMed, LLC, provides access to your results in roughly 15 minutes.

How much does rapid COVID-19 testing cost?

For BloomMed Members, rapid molecular testing costs $75 (compared to $100-150 at your local urgent care clinic), and there is no additional charge for your visit since your membership covers it.

For non-BloomMed Members, the cost of your test and visit will be $175-225, depending on the extent and complexity of your visit.

Testing may be reimbursable by your insurance company. However, BloomMed, LLC, suggests calling your insurance provider to confirm this beforehand to avoid any avoidable surprises.
